Why it exists

Every spreadsheet was easy to mess up, risky mid-tournament, and built from scratch again.

I helped host a pickleball tournament for a non-profit fundraiser, then later ran another one myself, and both times the setup was a mess. First it was an open-source library that worked but was painful to change last-minute. Then I tried just a spreadsheet, which worked but looked rough and left players confused about where they stood. That's when I decided to actually build something real.

A lot of late nights later, Courtside Manager is at a point where anyone can just pick it up and use it. After I used it myself at another event and it actually held up, I pitched it to Palakol Performance, a pickleball brand out of Dallas. It's now running their Rolling Doubles tournaments, an 8-player rotating doubles format, and their ambassadors have given me a ton of feedback along the way.

Now it's being used by clubs and organizers in different countries. Still building it out based on how people actually play. If it helps you run your next event, I'd love to hear about it, questions and ideas welcome!

Questions organizers ask before their first event.

Is Courtside Manager free?

Yes. Creating a tournament, generating the schedule, recording scores and sharing a read-only link are all free.

Do players need an account or an app?

No. Organizers sign in so their tournaments are saved. Players open a read-only link in any browser, no sign-in, nothing to download.

What is a round robin tournament?

Every team plays every other team once. Nobody is eliminated after a loss, and standings come from wins and point differential across all games.

Can it schedule rotating doubles?

Yes. Rotating formats give each player a different partner every round and score points to the individual, so one player wins the day rather than a team.

Can I run several skill divisions at once?

Yes. Add a category per division. Each gets its own schedule and standings while sharing the same courts and time slots.

How many courts and players does it handle?

Set your courts and game length and matches are assigned across them, from a one-court social night to a multi-court event with dozens of players.

Is it pickleball only?

It is built around pickleball, but any sport played to a point total on a set number of courts works the same way: padel, badminton, volleyball.

Can I change things after play starts?

Yes. Enter scores as games finish and standings recalculate immediately, so late arrivals and drop-outs don't mean rebuilding the day.
